Part 1: Git 101

Git is everywhere. It’s the way we share code. It’s the way we contribute to open source projects. During workshops, we use Git to share source code.

Tim Rayburn knows Git. He loves Git. He teaches developers how to use Git almost every day. Tim will explain the advantages of a local repository. He will explain branching, merging, and rebasing, and what makes Git different from other version control systems

Part 2: Bridge all the things

You’ve learned enough about your current project’s Version Control System to use it, but you’re changing projects. Now what? In part 2, Cori Drew will expand on Tim’s git 101 talk by explaining why git really is a swiss army knife of all coding situations, but will focus on the git-tfs bridge.

The git-tfs bridge enables the best of both worlds: TFS for devs who (like I used to say) "have no interest in learning a command-line tool," while enabling those of us who have seen git solve version control challenges previously assumed unsolvable, to use our new git love.

Speaker Bios

Cori Drew is a consultant with Improving Enterprises in Addison, TX. She started her programming career as a web developer before cutting her OOP teeth (& falling in love with C#) in 2003 in .NET Framework 1.1. Cori was a programmer for 8.5 years before discovering there was a developer community in 2009. Appreciation for growth & learning, enabled by our tech community, has inspired her to try to pay it forward.

Tim Rayburn is a Principal Consultant with Improving Enterprises, a software and project management consulting company in Dallas, TX. Since 2007 he has been annually awarded the Microsoft MVP for Connected Systems Development in recognition of his expertise and community leadership. He is the organizer of Dallas TechFest, where through the work of an amazing staff they bring an incredible multi-technology conference to life every year in Dallas. He is the author of “Entity Framework 4.1: Expert’s Cookbook”, with Devlin Liles, and can be found speaking across the nation of agile process, distributed architecture, and data access technologies. He lives in Arlington Texas with his amazing wife Kate and their loyal dog Gandalf.
